DUBLIN, Ohio — Sandra Puskarcik, Director of Community Relations for the City of Dublin, will serve as Honorary Race Director of the 2015 OhioHealth Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon.
The event will attract a sold-out field of 3,500 runners and walkers when it celebrates its sixth anniversary on Sunday, August 23. The Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles) both begin and end at Dublin Methodist Hospital.
Puskarcik has been a major advocate of the OhioHealth Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon since its inception in 2010. Her support has enabled the race to grow from about 1,000 runners and walkers in its first year to more than 3,500 in 2014.
“We founded the OhioHealth Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon in 2010 with the goal of building a major running and walking event that would showcase Dublin, Ohio,” race director David Babner said. “Sandra and her team at the City of Dublin have helped the event prosper and we are privileged to have Sandra serve as our Honorary Race Director in 2015.”
Puskarcik has been Director of Community Relations for the City of Dublin since 1990. She has also served as a Board Member for the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past 25 years and was the Director of the Dublin Irish Festival from 1990 to 2009.
“The Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon epitomizes the significance and relevance of community events in Dublin. It promotes and reflects the essence of our local government, community organizations, residents and businesses — it's healthy, family friendly, philanthropic, well-organized and fun,” Puskarcik said. “I look forward to enjoying and appreciating yet another great event in Dublin, Ohio USA!”
The Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon received the “Living The Irish Attitude Award” in 2011 from the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau for being a local event that “embraces Dublin's destination brand and slogan: "Dublin, Ohio — Irish Is An Attitude." The event's Official Event Shirts feature the “Irish Is An Attitude” slogan on the back.
The 2015 OhioHealth Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon will again feature the “Run For Fallen Heroes.” The charity run features two three-man relay teams of firefighters in full gear who compete to raise money for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The event is coordinated by First Due Endurance Racing, a Central Ohio-based racing team comprised of local firefighters and their families.
The Emerald City Half & Quarter Marathon concludes with a free post-race party at Buffalo Wild Wings featuring complimentary appetizers and a free Deep Eddy Vodka cocktail (21 and over). All participants receive an Official Gender-Specific Event Shirt and Official Finisher's Medal.
